First stop the magical, mysterious area of Palenque, home of Pakal, the leader of the Mayans. Guided by Francisco, we heard the story of this strange and advanced (for its time) civilization, its customs and traditions. Remnants remain amongst the indigenous people of the area, but so much has been lost due to invasion of people and the jungle itself. We did not see the howler monkeys, but heard them like many hounds of the Baskervilles! Very eerie!
(Photos) We met Guitano and his amazing van, shipped from Italy, and later Sandra and Mario from Frankfurt. Also George who drove us from Villahermosa, where we arrived from the States, and the cute girls who served us coffee at Cafetos Cafe in Palenque. Words to remember: cheepy, cheepy (rain) and mufis (muffins).
We know that you are enjoying your time there. You left Oregon just in time. We have had freezing fog. Very cold all day long. We wish we were along side of you sharing your great adventures. hugs, Deb & Gary
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting and sharing your memories on this blog. My mom has got the Facetime figured out but it's nice to read your version of the daily adventures too. :-) Can you post some photos when you have some time? Hello to everyone!

ReplyDeleteThanks for your very timely help, Tasha. Between you and my daughter, Kerry, I seem to have mastered this problem. It obviously takes a village for me to create a blog!
